THE COUNSEL OF KYPRIANOS*

From the monastery Hadjiomer Aga seized
100 rugs and 120 kilims
600 pieces of dry cheese
cup holders, bowls and trays of silver
500 forks, knives and spoons
a miraculous cross with precious stones
and 32 camels
on which they loaded the loot
and took it to the Saray
together with Pagona, Pezouna and Angeleta.
The Cypriots had not listened to the Bishop when he told them
that Cyprus was too close to Turkey
and it would serve no purpose to rise up.

*Bishop Kyprianos was hung by the Turks in July 1821 after rumours of an uprising
